CAROLINA SUMMER
Smile!

It's been warm...ok, it's been just plain hot for the last month or so. Did I mention humid? Yep, that too. It does wonders for dry skin. We're enjoying the hot lazy days.

BIRTHDAY

Susan hit the big 30!

REAL ESTATE

Dean finished his real estate course and Angela decided to go ahead and take the class too. We both passed the course test, so now we have to apply and take the state test. We've found a broker here in town that will take us on in a part time capacity. They even offer free in-house training to help get us up to speed.

TRAVEL

Angela took a trip to New Orleans for a conference. She got to sample the local cuisine and gad about the city. She also made a site visit to the recruiting station in Orlando. Our friends Liz and Kathi from Washington were also in the city for a conference and all three got to spend some quality time by the pool, catching up on what's been going on since we left.
4TH OF JULY
Kite
The town of Port Royal had their annual kite building contest in the park. We took Jackson and helped him make a kite. He had fun but was more interested in the nearby playground. Later we walked down to the beach where others were already flying their kites. There were some booths set up but there weren't many people around yet. It was midday and amazingly hot so we headed back home.

merry-go-round

We were invited to a cook out with our friends Clay and Brandi. We brought a pool along and the kids had a great time. The ribs were good too.

The kite competition was on the beach at Port Royal. Later that night they have fireworks there. Across the waterway is Parris Island. They also have fireworks. So no matter which place you go, you can see both shows. We decided to go to Parris since that's where Angela works. The crowd was huge. They had all the recruits in formation on the parade grounds and the Marine Corps band was playing. They put on a great show. Getting home took some while because there is only one way on and off the Island.

FAMILY DAY

First Ride

Angela's work held a family fun day. They had food, games and music. The Executive Officer brought one of his horses along and let all the kids take rides.

Chillin'

Jack and his friend Conner had fun on the playground, running around chasing fiddler crabs and just sittin' back chillin'.

JOB SHUFFLE

Dean's employer recently went through a round of budget cuts which, unfortunately, trickled down to their employees. To offset the drastic cuts in wages, they began offering a full benefits package. For reasons unknown, they also created a completely new company and moved all the employees over. About the time he got finished with all the paperwork involved in the move, he put in his resignation notice and has since been hired by yet another company, unrelated to the first two. That makes three employers in 4 months, with no break in between. All the while, he sits at the same desk and does the same work. Ah, the life of a government contractor.
