FREE July 2002
FAMILY

My Uncle Fred passed away this month. He was my Dad's next to youngest brother. I have fond memories of staying at his house one summer years ago. My cousins had a little Honda 90 trail bike that we rode around in the backyard. At night we'd lay out on the front lawn and look at the stars. I remember him as a compassionate yet no-nonsense kind of guy who had quite a sense of humor. He will be missed.

I noticed that a new page about Great-Uncle LeBart, who passed away last February, has been added to his website.

TRAVEL

Dean's Mom and Grandma were here from Indiana, July 26-Aug 2, to see Jackson and have a much delayed visit. We really enjoyed their company.

Laura
It's Summer!

Laura spent two weeks with us this month. We had a lot of fun while she was here. She also passed her swimming class and has started a new one. As if the pool wasn't enough, here she is having fun with the sprinkler.

Whaling Days Parade

Summer also means the annual Whaling Days Festival here in Silverdale. They have a parade and set up the usual shops and vendors down in Old Town. Waterfront park is turned to a small carnival. They also have live music and all sorts of contests.

Posing

This was the first year Laura got to be in the parade, so of course we were there to watch.

Napping

After the parade, Jackson decided it was nap time.

Eating

We bought some food and took a break for lunch in Waterfront Park.

Bouncing

Laura having fun on the carnival rides.

EVENTS

What's July without fireworks? We went to a friend's house where all the neighborhood kids had pooled their fireworks (several hundred dollars worth).

We took Laura to the Annual Shrine Circus this year. Considering how expensive it was to get in, we were very disappointed in the show. They didn't even have a tent! We ate our cotton candy and left during intermission.

Duke's Place

While enroute to the Game Farm, we stopped at the John Wayne Marina for lunch. The food was pretty good and the area was really pretty. Apparently the Duke owned that whole area until he donated it for public use shortly before his death.

We all took the ferry over to Seattle and we did some shopping while Mom and MomMom took the underground tour.
