![]() The most powerful earthquake in more than half a century jolted the Pacific Northwest on Wednesday, Feb 28th at 10:54 a.m., rocking homes and office buildings and buckling roads like rubber. The 6.8 magnitude temblor originated 30 miles below the earth near Olympia and was so strong that it cracked the thick Capitol dome. Law makers said the limestone dome rippled like origami. Two minor aftershocks were recorded overnight at the same location of the initial quake. A magnitude 3.4 quake occurred at 1:10 a.m. and a magnitude 2.7 was recorded at 6:23 a.m. Neither was widely felt and no additional damage was reported. Wednesday's rumbling of the earth was felt from Portland, Ore. to the Canadian border, and injured more than 200 people in the region. The Williams family came through without any damage to our personal property or us. |
